More than a few moms have fessed up here to slipping their kids some cold medicine if their kids are just too much to handle. But a new report from the Journal of Pediatrics says this might be a new form of child abuse! The author of the article, looking at research of 1,439 cases from 2000 to 2008 (in which 18 kids died) said:
"Anytime you're giving a medication for any other purpose other than for what it's explicitly prescribed for, you run the risk of harming your child,"
Clearly, truuMOMs feel strongly about both sides of this story:
Those who've fessed up to dosing their wee ones with no guilt:
truu516389 - Twice I've given my hyper son (8) Benedryl at bedtime to make him sleepy. I don't feel badly at all about it. I was happy to get to bed early and get a good sleep.

And those who would agree with the new report and cry 'ABUSE'!
truu516500 - I try not to ever judge another mother. However, giving your "hyper" child benedryl so he/she will sleep is really terrible. They have warning labels dedicated to brain trusts like you!! Try omitting sugar before you drug your baby!
