On Friday, May 21st, the Texas Board of Education approved changes to elementary, middle school, and high school social studies curricula.  Board member Don McLeroy stated that members of the history profession “seem to have a left-wing tilt, so what we’re doing is trying to restore some balance to the standards.”  Changes include adding discussion of the "solvency of long term entitlements, such as Social Security and Medicare”, discussion of why “the Founding Fathers protected religious freedom in America and guaranteed its free exercise…”, adding “a direct reference to the election of President Barack H. Obama”, and studying the political philosophies of Thomas Jefferson.  The full CNN article is available here.  How would you feel about these changes in your own child's school? Our Texan moms, how are you reacting to them?
